Bachelor of Music
(MusB)
Four-year degree at the University of Western Australia, spread over many years 1979-1990 but mostly done in the first four years.

Major: composition, plus studies in piano performance.

Significant teachers (one-to-one):
Roger Smalley (five years of composition);
Brian Michell (two years of piano);
Sir Frank Callaway (two years of orchestration).

I was privileged to have many other wonderful teachers at UWA including other staff in classes and tutorials, and contact and masterclasses with many international visitors.
Postgraduate Diploma in Education (DipEd)
Part-time over two years, UWA, 1993-1994.
Major: high school class music; minor: computer studies.

Included an interesting elective unit in research methods.

Two long teaching practicums at schools with a major investment in music education: Christchurch Grammar School and Churchlands Senior High School.
Not for Degree studies at UWA (done for interest)
Italian 110 (1986, two terms)
Music 260 (1986, music education eg Kodaly etc, covered again in the DipEd years later)
Licentiate of Trinity College, London (LTCL)
Piano teaching, 1992.
Associate of Trinity College, London (ATCL)
Piano performance, 1988.
Associate in Music, Trinity College, London (AMusTCL)
Teaching of composition and music theory, 1988.
Associate in Music, Australian Music Examinations Board (AMusA)
Theory, 1989. I did several grade exams with the Board in piano or theory but this is my only AMEB diploma.
Note: all my qualifications and experience were gained in Australia.

Member of the Institute of Music Teachers (MIMT)
National Accreditation for Studio Music Teachers in Australia. Accredited for teaching of piano and theory, 1991. (Note: The IMT is now defunct.)
Associate Composer, Australian Music Centre (AMC). Since about 1998.
