Greensleeves
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Greensleeves dates from 1580 when the tune and
original lyrics were first mentioned in a list of publications in
Elizabethan England. Over the next few years it was published several
more times, including one version with sixteen verses.
Many years ago I began making arrangements of Greensleeves for my
singing students. In early 2018 I published one in a limited edition, but also continued
to develop more sophisticated versions.
The project has grown into another new version to be published under several
titles with different lyrics. Each of those has further small
variations in lyrics to choose from.
I've modernised the lyrics in a similar fashion to my new arrangements of Amazing Grace and Londonderry Air, borrowing some words from the original.
Each of these songs will be published in multiple versions for
different forces and with a choice of lyrics for different singers and
audiences.
